Update, 1/18/16, 8:10 p.m.: Ecuador has confirmed that they have in fact severed Assange’s internet connection due to the recent Podesta leaks. Regarding this, they said “The Government of Ecuador respects the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other states. It does not interfere in external electoral processes, nor does it favor any particular candidate.” Followed by: “Accordingly, Ecuador has exercised its sovereign right to temporarily restrict access to some of its private communications network within its Embassy in the United Kingdom.”
Update, 8:31 p.m.: It looks as though Senator John Kerry has pressured the Ecuadorian president to take action against Assange in light of these events.
It is a well known fact that corrupt officials are willing to stop at nothing to silence dissidence, even if it means taking matters into their own hands. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that certain individuals whose administrations were on the business end of this loaded gun want him silenced, or perhaps worse.
Assange currently resides in the Ecuadorian embassy located in London, England. Yesterday, WikiLeaks’ official twitter announced to the world that his internet connection had been severed, followed by: “We have activated the appropriate contingency plans.” This post came after a series of strange tweets that seemed to be mostly nonsense, but some speculate that they were a deployment of the “Dead Man’s Switch”; which provides that, should Assange die, the leaked documents scheduled for release go ahead as planned. As of right now, Assange’s current situation is unclear. The “switch” is a series of keys that unlock unknown files.
This follows the most recent leaks from John Podesta’s emails regarding Hillary Clinton’s paid speeches which she gave to Goldman Sachs. These transcripts indicate that she plans to take direct action in Syria if President, which could increase tensions between the U.S. and Russia, and possibly lead to war.
Julian Assange is the founder of Wikileaks. This organization is responsible for tens of thousands of leaked documents that have played an integral role in informing people around the world about the corruption, deceit, and questionable operations that their governments have been involved in.
WikiLeaks has absolutely rocked this election season with their leaked documents from Hillary Clinton’s private email server, DNC leaks, and most recently the Podesta leaks. The threat posed by these leaks seems to have Hillary’s campaign staff in full damage control mode, doing their absolute best to distract the public from what could possibly be incriminating evidence.
As of right now, much of this is speculation and details are scarce. Further updates will come as the information is made available.
