In what can only be deemed the biggest political upset in recent history, Donald Trump’s astounding victory is already provoking tantrums from “Democrats” across the nation. Of course these aren’t your Jim Webb type of democrats, these are what I call “New Era Democrats.” Mainly young, college aged, single-issue voters. Whether they want tuition-free college or universal healthcare, or they want to further their social justice agenda – whatever it may be. They didn’t get what they wanted and now they’re angry. In fact there’s currently a Change.org petition with 2 million online signatures asking the electors to go against the will of the country in order to elect Hillary Clinton. This is why you don’t give children a trophy simply for participation, because now they don’t know how to handle a loss.
They simply can’t fathom the idea that maybe the nearly 60 million Americans who voted for Trump aren’t racist, sexist, xenophobes – or worse, they think nearly 60 million Americans are racist, sexist, xenophobes. It’s because of propaganda fed to them by the mainstream media, telling flat out lies about Donald Trump for a year and some change. And it’s also because of the politically correct culture forced onto them on college campuses. God forbid a conservative voice his or her opinion at a university. They’d be lucky if all they received in return was little more than some browbeating.
The New Era Democrats scream and shout about “democracy,” while simultaneously hashtagging all their tweets with #NotMyPresident and protesting with signs that say the same. That the utter irony of that doesn’t set in on any of them goes to show they aren’t the “highly educated” Clinton voters the mainstream media had made them out to be. Now, I’ve heard quite a few arguments for the past two days about Hillary Clinton winning the popular vote, and, although it’s by less of a margin than Gore over Bush, the New Era Democrats think the electors will change their minds. They say America isn’t a Democracy if the electors don’t side with the popular vote. Of course America isn’t a total Democracy, and hopefully it never will be. I’ve had to explain the point of the Electoral College too many times in 48 hours, so I’ll get a little comprehensive for the thick headed liberals.
Electoral votes are awarded on the basis of the popular vote in each state. So because Clinton was able to amass 5.6 million votes from California doesn’t mean the rest of the country feels the same way. She won the popular vote there, like she could have in any other state and won the 55 electoral vote jackpot. If Trump was such an unattractive candidate you would think he would have a hard time winning majorities in each state. But the reality is that Trump won the popular vote in 30 states, whereas Clinton only won 21 states if you include D.C. That seems fair and the way it was intended to be in a Federal Republic – a federation of states, a country that is governed by elected representatives and by an elected leader, certainly not total Democracy. Some states have attempted to meet people halfway by allocating electoral votes for congressional districts and it’s worked fine, but that’s just not enough for New Era Democrats. They won’t protest and petition the winner-take-all system. Maybe it’s because they’re afraid Republicans can take chunks of California and New York, the inherent advantage Democrats get because of the electoral college.
The way I see it, New Era Democrats won’t be happy unless they win. They just got a little too used to Obama’s ability to win, and now that Hillary Clinton failed they just don’t know what to do. Well, they should put their big boy and big girl pants on and accept the results. Just take the loss. And if they don’t like it I’m happy to quote Obama on this one.
Go out there and win an election.
