Previously, in March, there was speculation that rapper and producer Kanye West may have been a Trump supporter after a passenger on the same flight from Paris to L.A. claimed “He’s not going to vote for Trump but he supports him.” Sources close to West called the claims “totally untrue,” and FEC records show Kanye donated $2,700 to Hillary For America in July of 2015. It now seems that those sources may have just been covering up for Kanye.
Last Thursday, however, West went on a prolonged political rant during his concert in San Jose, California. During which, he seemed to have endorsed President-Elect Donald Trump. Kanye said he didn’t vote this year, but that he would’ve voted for Trump, which elicited a mix of boos and cheers from the large crowd. Throughout the show, Kanye apparently told the audience his concerts were safe for everyone, whether they voted for Trump or Clinton. Of course, Twitter users were quick to criticize the endorsement and people immediately started burning $200 pairs of Yeezy Boots.
Two nights later at a concert in Sacramento, Kanye went on another rant proclaiming “I’m on my Trump sh*t tonight.” This time it was less about Trump and more about Beyonce, Jay-Z, Drake and other mainstream artists, but he also made remarks about President Obama, Hillary Clinton and Mark Zuckerberg. “He had to be perfect. But being perfect don’t always change shit, bro. Being perfect don’t always change shit, bro,” West said in reference to Obama’s political correctness.
West continued, “The Saint Pablo tour is more relevant than radio and if y’all keep following old models, your ass is going to be Hillary Clinton,” you might not like it, but they gotta hear it. I ain’t here to massage you with a fake truth, telling you that Hillary gon’ win over and over and over and then you wake up [and] you still can’t believe it! You know why? Because you was lied to by Google. You was lied to by Mark Zuckerberg.” As the rant continued West went on to say, “Hillary Clinton, it’s a new world. Feelings matter. Because guess what? Everybody in middle America felt a way and they showed you how they felt. Feelings matter, bro. It’s a new world.” He continued, “Get ready to have a field day, press, get ready – get ready, because the show’s over.” It seems like even Kanye West is tired of the mainstream media. He then dropped the mic and fled off the stage as the crowd loudly booed and protested. Neither West nor the Golden 1 Center venue has announced whether fans will be given a refund for the show, but many were audibly outraged.
Afterwards there was no shortage of opinions coming from well known artists and others in the industry. “I smoke weed. Weed don’t make you do that [sic]. What the f*** is he on?” asked Snoop Dogg during a series of Instagram videos commenting on Kanye’s rant. “He picked the wrong night to vent like that,” Snoop said. “You should’ve had a bunch of weird motherf***ers like you in there when you were talking that weird ass sh*t.” Of course this is how the left works. If you have a different opinion, you will be demeaned and ridiculed – that includes claiming West was on drugs and calling him names. Reactions like this are probably why Kanye kept his support for Trump a secret since March or maybe even earlier.
Today, after the massive online backlash against West over the past few days, he canceled the rest of his 2016 Saint Pablo tour dates which had been scheduled through New Year’s Eve. Tickets will be fully refunded at point of purchase according to a statement from Live Nation. The entertainment company decided not to comment on why the tour was cancelled, but People and TMZ, each citing an unnamed source, reported the reason is exhaustion, as West balances his tour with working in fashion design.
